Apple Sells It’s One Hundred Millionth iPod
Jun 6th, 2007 by Martin
After just 5 and a half years after Apple first launched iPod they announced the sale of it’s 100 millionth iPod. Apple CEO steve jobs hailed the iPod as the fastest selling music player in history.
Although iPod has has reached this milestone Sony’s Walkman cassette player is still the biggest selling music player of all time with estimated word sales of 350 million but took 13 years to do this.
According to market analysis iPod own 70% of the global market for music players, this is not surprising as it’s really simple and easy to use, and looks great and sleek. Sony really need to sort out their software for the new Walkman as it’s rubbish and people have taken their player back because of this in favour of an iPod. If Sony address this problem then perhaps there will be a better chance of them competing with the mighty Apple, but I can’t see this happening. Well done Apple.
Apple is making a killing with this iPod. I can’t believe they sold 100 million lol I don’t even have my own yet.
They are pretty cool but there are some good alternatives out there such as Zune and Sony
I make up for Shaun. My wife and I own 4 (two ipods and two nanos) between the two of us.
4 iPods! Why not sell the nanos and keep the iPods? I have a colour photo one. Next purchase a itrip for the car.
Wow, I don’t get it. There are a lot of better MP3 players out there than iPods. Sure, iPods have their pros, but they have cons as well. iPods ARE the best lookng MP3 player but that shouldn’t be the only reason people get them. That reason, and the reason that “all my friends have one, I need one too”. Personally, I have a Creative Zen, and I’m fine with it.
