Add Sites To Googles Competitive Filter?
Aug 15th, 2007 by Martin
For those of you that don’t know, Google Adsense is a way of monetising your website. Google displays relevant adverts on your website and when someone clicks on one of these adverts then you get some money. How much you get depends on how much Google are getting paid, the industry the business is in. For example finance adverts usually pay more because they pay more per click in Google adwords as profit margins are high.
However there are some problems, sometimes Google places crap low paying adverts on your site. So you only get a few cents rather that a few dollars! Not the fastest way to make money online!
Google Adsense do however have what called a competitive filter. The competitive ad filter allows you to put in a list of websites that typically pay a low cost per click. By putting these adverts in the competitive filter means that these adverts will not show up at all, so in theory you should just be left with high paying adverts.
This got me thinking though (a dangerous thing) Google put’s these adverts on your website because they think they are most suited to your readers. By maybe putting some of these lower paying sites in the filter as we making our adverts less relevant? I would rather have some money from a click than nobody clicking at all. What are your thoughts? Keep out the low payers? or sacrifice relevant adverts to make more money online from a high cost per click, but maybe a low CTR.
